Telehealth informed consent

Therapy is provided by telehealth. Before your first session you review and agree to the Telehealth Informed Consent, which explains how remote sessions work, their benefits and limitations, privacy and technology safeguards, licensure and location requirements, and what to do in an emergency.

Required Colorado disclosures

The practice of licensed or registered persons in the field of psychotherapy is regulated by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies. As required by Colorado law, you are informed that:

• You are entitled to receive information about the methods of therapy, the techniques used, the duration of therapy (if known), and the fee structure. See our practice policies for cancellation, membership, and fee terms.
• You may seek a second opinion from another therapist or terminate therapy at any time.
• Information shared in therapy is legally confidential except where disclosure is required or permitted by law, including but not limited to: suspected abuse or neglect of a child, at-risk adult, or elder; serious threat of harm to self or others; or court order. See the Notice of Privacy Practices for the full description of how your health information is used and protected.
• In a professional relationship, sexual intimacy is never appropriate and should be reported to the board.

Distinction between therapy and coaching

Clinical therapy services provided to clients in Colorado or Texas are licensed mental-health services. Coaching services are not licensed mental-health services, are not psychotherapy, and are not regulated by the boards listed above. Coaching does not create a therapist-client relationship.

Because therapy is a licensed service, you must be physically located in Colorado or Texas at the time of each therapy session, regardless of where you normally reside. Coaching is not location-restricted and is available nationwide.
